The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department is now accepting applications for membership in the department. No prior fire service qualifications are needed. Applicants must be 18 years of age, no criminal history, have a drivers license, a vehicle to respond with, live within a few miles of Cameron, and most of all be able to repond to fires and attend meetings and drills each Monday. The Yoemen Band Booster Club meets every 2nd Monday at the Yoe High Band Hall which is next to the Performing Arts Center (PAC). The public is welcome. Memberships are also available for $10 per person or $20 per family. With a membership you will receive a yard sign to show your support the Yoe Band.
The Milam County Health Department is offering the meningitis vaccine for children 11 - 18 years of age for $5.00 or no charge for Medicaid. Bacterial Meningitis is an infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and even if treated 15% of people die and those that do surivie 19% lose arms or legs or have other serious lifelong problems. The meningitis vaccine is required for entry into the 7th grage. If your child has not received the vaccine and is between the ages of 11 and 18 please visit the health department during regular clinic hours to get the vaccine. Standards Hospice hosts a grief support group on 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month: in October, on the 27th. The group meets at 6:00 p.m. in its All-Tex Building, 115 N. Central, in Cameron. Those of the community who are experiencing grief and bereavement because of the death of a friend or loved one are invited. There is no cost to attend.

Vegetable and specialty crop production is a growing interest in Williamson County and is a great option for smaller acreages. With the number of local Farmers Markets, producers have a great avenue to market and sell their products. On February 23, 2012 Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Williamson County will host the Specialty Crops Short Course at Taylor City Hall (400 Porter Street, Taylor, TX). Registration will start at 1pm with the program starting at 1:30pm. The program will conclude by 4:30pm. The short course will focus on Hugh Tunnel Production Systems, an update on upcoming weed control issues, and local fertility conditions and variety/crop selection for the blacklands. The cost of the program is $25 and includes 1 General and 1 IPM Continuing Education Units for TDA Pesticide Applicator Licensees. The Milam County Clerk's Office will begin Brand renewals for area ranchers. Ranchers will have until February 29, 2012 to renew their brand registration. The 6th Annual Tejas Festival in Rockdale will be March 3rd. The day will feature 7 locations to visit. Pick up a map of the locations, get that map stamped showing you were there, and you could be eligible for a $100 gift certificate. The event will be from 10AM-4PM. Stops will include an art sale, plant sale, authors open house, book sale, Kay Theater tour, children's activities, food, and a car show. It is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Downtown Association and numerous community organizations.

The Cameron Area Arts & Service League will hold its 3rd Annual Rummage Sale. (Clothing, household and kitchen items, furniture and much more) on Saturday March 3rd, from 8:00am - 2:00pm at the Cameron Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, on West 3rd Street in Cameron, behind the Rattlers Exxon Station. All proceeds go to local service and scholarships for the community.

KJT District 4 invites everyone to hear Chris Rybak perform on Saturday, March 3rd from 6-10PM at Old Settlers Reunion Hall in Round Rock. Admission is $5 for adults, and free for kids. The old Bailey Bank Building in Milano that survived the fire many years ago is being restored and made into a museum. A committee has been put together to raise money for this project. Friends of the Bailey Bank Building in Milano invite you to an evening of "Memories" - a musical revue of old time favorites starring local talent, Saturday March 3rd at 7PM. Doors open at 6 pm, at the Milano High School Cafeteria. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12. Concessions will open at 6 pm.

The Cameron Horseshoe Club will host a benefit tournament, Saturday, March 10th for Haley Johannsen, the Academy student, injured in a January bus accident in Bell County. The tournament will be held at the Cameron Park Pits adjacent to the baseball fields. Sign-up begins at 10:30, with pitching to start at 11 a.m. Trophies will be awarded. Cost is $30 per team. The Army Field Band out of Washington D.C. will come and do a full performance for the public in Cameron ISD Performing Arts Center. The performance will be Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 PM. It will be free and open to the public. Free tickets are available from the Cameron Chamber of Commerce or the Yoe High School front kiosk. Three Yoe band members will be featured with the group on one of their selections. The students who will be performing are: Alex Cole on trumpet, Blake Vanier on trombone and Garrett Wallace on saxophone. The local boy scout troop under scoutmaster Kyle Deal will also present the colors that evening.

The Bell County Extension Education Association's seventh annual "Luncheon with Style" will present "A Walk in the Park" on March 24th at the Bell County Expo Center, 11:00 a.m., in the first floor Assembly Hall. A baked potato/salad luncheon with musical entertainment (11:00 - 11:45) by Accordionist, Michael Middleton, M.D., Scott & White Nuclear Radiology Consultant, will be followed by fashions provided by Dillards Department Store. 4-H members will participate. Milano Student Council and National Honor Society are hosting a Race to the Oak Trees 5K run/walk on March 31st in Milano. Cost to enter is $20. M.A.R.C. serves Milam County residents that have physical and learning disabilities teaching them valueable Life skill task that most people take for granted. Cameron ISD is asking citizens over 65 years old that dont have a Senior Yoeman Club Card and want one, call 697-3512 to make arrangements for taking their picture and obtaining a card. Once a month the Senior Citizens Group in Milano sponsors a Country Jamboree at the senior center in Milano. There is no charge and refreshments are served for a nominal fee. The event takes place the final Saturday of each month at 7:00PM.
